BBM Gets A Major Update With Free Privacy And Control Features, Improved Voice Quality, And More

BlackBerry is all about Android these days with the PRIV leading the charge. The company hasn’t forgotten about BBM, though. The app has gotten a few significant updates since it came out, and today there’s another major one with better notification control, proper support for Marshmallow permissions, and more. Plus, all privacy and control features are no longer behind the paywall.

Here’s the changelog for the new version.

All Privacy and Control features are now FREE – Timed messages & photos, Retract, Private Chat, and Edit
Forward messages from one chat to another
Ability to mute notifications for a multi-person chat
Scroll through all pictures shared within a 1:1 or multi-person chat
Choose if you want pictures taken within BBM chats saved to your device
Improved BBM Voice call quality
Marshmallow (Android 6.0) support
Performance improvements and bug fixes

The new free messaging features are a big deal if you are a casual user of BBM. Previously you’d have to pay $0.99 for access to some of these features, but now retracting messages, private chat, timed messages, and editing are all free. You’ll also find that message forwarding is supported now.
This update includes some tweaks and improvements to existing features too. Voice quality should be better, and you can finally mute notifications from multi-person chats. The app should understand Marshmallow permissions now as well. The update is live in the Play Store for everyone.
